NEW YORK CITY, NY — Coastal Carolina University junior Amber Campbell's star continues to rise in the track and field world as she took fourth place in the weight throw at the USA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Campbell, a two-time All-American, was the top collegiate finisher in the field and will now prepare for the NCAA Indoor National Track and Field Championships in the same event next weekend.
Campbell, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, posted a personal best and school record throw of 68'10.50" (20.99 meters) on her sixth and final throw to vault to the fourth place finish. Anna Norgren-Mahon placed first in the event with a throw of 76'6.5" (23.33m). Dawn Ellerbe, a former collegiate National Champion and current world record-holder in this event, placed second with a throw of 73'7.5" (22.44m), while Toyinda Wilson was third with a toss of 71'1.25" (21.67m). Jukina Dickerson of the University of Florida was the second collegiate finisher in fifth place overall (67'6.75", 20.59m).
Campbell also qualified for the shot put, but placed seventh with a heave of 46'9" (14.25m). She fouled on four of her six attempts in the event.
