CONWAY, SC — The Coastal Carolina baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Liberty, by trimming the Flames, 11-8 and 3-1 in Big South Conference Baseball action Saturday evening at Watson Stadium.

The Chanticleers improved to 36-12 overall, 8-4 in the Big South, after topping the Flames, 11-8, in a game continued from Friday night that was suspended due to severe weather. The Chants then claimed a two-run decision in the regularly scheduled contest. With two losses, Liberty falls to 14-31 overall and 7-11 in the Big South.

In game one, sophomore Jake Hurry (6-1) picked up the win in relief, tossing three innings allowing one run, while freshman Josh Fish picked up his second save of the year, striking out three in two innings of perfect relief. Jon Banke (0-6) suffered the loss for Liberty.

Sophomore Daniel Bote would drive in the second run on his infield hit to the shortstop. Coastal would answer scoring six times in the bottom half of the inning, with the help of two Liberty errors from Liberty pitcher Michael Schaffer.

After both teams scored a run apiece in the second inning, Liberty would post four in the third inning to tie the game at 7-7. Junior Josh Hirt led off the inning with a solo blast to left field. Bote would plate the next run on a wild pitch. One batter later, Doug Bechtold doubled to left center, scoring York and A.J. Van Slyke. The Chants would retake the lead with an unearned run in the third on an error by Liberty's shortstop.

The Flames would narrow the CCU lead to 9-8 in the sixth inning on a lead off home run by Bryan. Coastal would then answer with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning, when senior Steve Pinocchio singled in Jeff Baker from second.

Coastal would add an insurance run in the seventh on a Brett Grandstrand single that scored Chad Oxendine.

In the nightcap, Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first. Larry Wayne York doubled to lead off the game and then advance to third, two batters later on a groundout to second by Jeremiah Boles. York then would scored on a balk.
