JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In its first-ever road game, Coastal Carolina's first football team came up on the short end of a 14-9 decision at Jacksonville, Sept. 20. With the loss, the Chanticleers fall to 1-2, while the Dolphins go to 2-1.

Jacksonville got on the board first with an 11-yard pass from Mike Sturgill to Jimmy Willman midway through the second quarter.

Coastal responded late in the first half, as backup quarterback Ren McKinnon came in with just over three minutes left in the half and guided the Chants down the field before scoring himself on a 30-yard touchdown run.

Coastal eventually took the lead, 9-7, on a 26-yard Josh Hoke field goal with over 14 minutes to play in the game. However, the Dolphins took the ball on a 16-play, 77-yard drive over 6:23 seconds to take the lead for good at 14-9, as tight end Justin Knowles caught a four-yard pass from Sturgill.

CCU mounted one last drive from its own 10 with 1:28 to play, but Tyler Thigpen's pass from JU's 38 fell to the ground in the end zone to end the game.

Coastal outgained the Dolphins, 346 to 265, including 207 yards of passing.

Freshman Aundres Perkins posted Coastal's first-ever 100-yard rushing game, going for 117 yards on 20 carries. McKinnon came off the bench to go 12-for-19 for 128 yards, while freshman Rodney Burgess grabbed 10 balls for 110 yards, becoming the first Coastal player to have 100 yards receiving in a game.

Jacksonville's Sturgill was 14-for-24 for 153 yards and two touchdowns, while Emmitt Hunter had 20 carries for 78 yards..

Coastal has a short week to prepare, as it travels to Greenville, S.C. to take on the North Greenville Crusaders, Thursday, Sept. 25. Kickoff at Eastside High School's Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
