CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's volleyball team (3-3) defeated Tennessee State University and Savannah State University in the Catamount Clash Sept. 6, in Cullowhee, N.C. The Lady Chants and Tennessee State went the full five games, with the Lady Chants winning 30-20, 30-23, 26-30, 29-31 and 15-9. Coastal then defeated SSU in three games 30-18, 30-14 and 30-21.

Against Tennessee State, Coastal had hitting games of .162 and .333 to win the first two games, but Tennessee State came back to take games three and four, including a close 31-29 contest in game four. In game five, Coastal used nine kills to end the match and improve to 2-0 on the season in five-game matches.

Sophomore Jennifer Hampton had a season-high 52 assists and led the Chants with 19 digs. Sophomore Katherine Jensen led the Lady Chants with 22 kills, while senior Sarah Bennett and freshman Alicia Meyers had 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

The Lady Chants made quick work of Savannah State, hitting .393 for the match, compared to .012 for the Tigers. Freshman Laura Obert led the Lady Chants with nine kills and Kali Banghart added 16 assists.

Coastal hosts the first of two back-to-back weekend tournaments with the CCU Invitational Sept. 12-13, taking on Clemson University, Wofford College and Florida Atlantic University.
