Moutsinga Leads Women’s Cross Country to Big South Championship

Kipchiris Leads Men’s Cross Country to a Third-Place Finish in Big South Championship

Behind a second-place individual performance from senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) and a third-place individual performance from freshman Christina Mohr (Ulmen Germany) Coastal Carolina's women cross country team captured its fourth consecutive Big South New Balance Cross Championship, which is a new Big South record, on Saturday morning, Oct. 30, held in Rock Hill, S.C.

Moutsinga, who had captured the individual crown of Runner of the Year the previous two years, placed second with a time of 18:19. Teammate Mohr finished third with a time of 18:22, helping the Lady Chanticleers, who were the preseason favorite, capture its fourth consecutive Big South Championship. CCU seniors Kim Nermergut (Youngstown, Ohio/South Range) and Lindsey Kozlowski (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Port Arthur Collegiate) both placed among the top ten with times of 18:29 and 18:38, respectively. Moutsinga, Mohr, Nermergut and Kozlowski all were named as members of the Big South All-Conference Squad.

High Point's Jemissa Hess, was named the women's Runner of the Year, for capturing the individual crown with a time of 17:42.The Lady Chants talled 36 points to finish first for the fourth consecutive year.

Coastal's Alan Connie was named Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year while CCU's Mohr was named the Big South's women's cross country Freshman of the Year. The Lady Chants Kim Nemergut was awarded with a spot on the Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Behind a second-place individual performance from senior Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta)) Coastal Carolina's men's cross country earned a third place finish in the New Balance Big South Cross Country Championship's on Saturday morning, Oct. 30, held in Rock Hill, S.C.

Kipchiris, the defending conference champion, placed second with a time of 24:14. He was followed by four High Point runners. The Chanticleers had 74 points on the morning to place third as team. Kipchiris also was honored with a place on the Men's Cross Country All Academic Team.

The High Point Panthers men's cross country squad earned its third straight indivdual championship. Liberty placed second due in part to the indivdually running of freshman Josh McDougal. McDougal was honored as both the Big South men's Runner of the Year and the Freshman of the Year and lead this 8k event with a course record run of 23:49.

The men and women will next run in Greenville, N.C. as it participates in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 13.
