CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Coastal Carolina's Amber Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) finished second overall and first among collegians in the weight throw for the second straight weekend at UNC Chapel Hill's Carolina Classic, Feb. 7. Campbell threw for 20.81m (63'3.25"), placing second behind Jamine Moton, a former NCAA champion and record-holder.
Overall, the Lady Chants posted nine top-10 finishes in the field of 13 top schools. Freshman Claudia Witte (Warlin, Germany/Sportgymnasium Neubrandenburg) turned in a sixth place finish in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:21.82, and junior Lindsey Kozlowski (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Port Arthur Collegiate) finished 10th in the same event in 10:32.54. Freshman Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) finished third in the triple jump, going for 11.99m (39'4"), and 10th in the high jump with a leap of 1.63m (5'4.25"). Johnson also ran the 200m dash in :26.17, putting her at second on Coastal's all-time list.
Campbell was also impressive in the shot put, placing fifth with a distance of 13.94m (45'9"). Junior Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas/Coffeyville J.C.) finished two spots behind Campbell in the shot with a throw of 13.19m (43'3.25"), putting her at third on CCU's all-time list, and she also placed sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.59m (51'1.75"). Freshman Jessica Pressley (Mullins, S.C./Mullins) was also in the top 10 in the weight throw, going for 14.44m (47'4.5").
