CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina opened it's men's and women's track seasons with NCAA regional qualifying marks from freshmen Thomas Jordan (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) in the javelin and Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) in the triple jump. Both athletes not only set new school records, but also Big South Conference records with their performances.
Johnson's regional-qualifying mark was 12.40m/40'8.5", and she also placed first in the long jump. Senior Marilyn Testa (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) also earned a first place finish in the high jump with a performance of 1.63m/5'4.25". Freshman Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas/Coffeyville J.C.) was also impressive in her first outdoor meet, finishing first in the shot put and discus with throws of 12.76m/41'10.5" and 37.48m/122'11", respectively. Another freshman rounded out Coastal's top finishes, as Dana Sizemore (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) won the javelin, throwing for 42.02m/137'10 and falling just short of a regional qualifying mark.
For the men, Jordan recorded a throw of 68.88m/125'11.25" to qualify for regionals. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads also took first, as did Michael Streater (Chesterfield, S.C./Chesterfield) in the long jump (6.70m/21'11.75") and Marcus Johnson (Orangeburg, S.C./Claflin College) in the triple jump (14.27m/46'10").
Both the men and women stay at home to host the Shamrock Invitational, Friday March 12 and Saturday March 13, beginning at 9 a.m. on the campus of CCU.
