GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Coastal Carolina men's outdoor track and field sophomore Mark Johnson (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) became the second Chanticleer to win a regional title this weekend, breaking the school and regional records by clearing 5.26 meters/17'3" in the pole vault. The meet was hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.
In day two of the meet, Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta)) also earned points for the men, placing seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:58.10.
On the women's side, freshman Dana Sizemore (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) finished 20th in the javelin with a toss of 39.54 meters/129'8.5", and junior Lindsey Kozlowski (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Port Arthur Collegiate) placed 32nd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:15.32.
Johnson's 10 points helped the CCU men to a 17th place finish with 12 total points at the end of the meet, and he will join senior Amber Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) at the 2004 NCAA Championships, June 9-12, in Austin, Texas. Campbell won the women's hammer throw yesterday with a record throw, and the Lady Chanticleers finished 22nd overall with 10 points.
