RALEIGH, N.C. – Coastal Carolina track and field team began their busy weekend by competing at the Raleigh Relays on Friday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C. on the campus of North Carolina State.

Among the standouts for Coastal women from the first day of action are distance runner freshman Nikki Jasperson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) who placed sixth in the 5,000 meters and throwers juniors Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas, Rowlett (Coffeyville JC) and Tamara Bryant (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle (Moorpark C.C.) who placed fourth (47.05m/154'04) and fifth (46.11m/151'3"), respectively in the discus. Reid also finished sixth in the shot put with a new career best and an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark of 14.32m/46'11.75".

Sophomore Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) also set a new career best time while finishing ninth in the 100m dash (12.19). Johnson also finished 11th in the long jump. Freshman Courtney Lemon (Hopkins, S.C./Dreher) also set a new career best in the 100m and finished 20th overall with a 12.36. Junior Ebony Brown (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) finished fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:01.95) for Coastal.

For the men, junior Johnny Mitchell (Duncan, S.C./Byrnes) was a top finisher with a 15:17.57 in the men's 5,000m and senior Kendall White (Columbia, S.C./Richland Northeast) was CCU's top finisher in the 400m hurdles.

Coastal's track and field program finish up competing tommorrow, Mar. 26, on the second day of the Raleigh Relay's.
