Box Score Volleyball Falls to Jacksonville 3-1 More Information:
CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina volleyball team (4-11) fell to Jacksonville (7-8) in a non-conference match-up Sunday, September 24, 30-24, 28-30, 20-30, 21-30.
In game one, Jacksonville jumped out with the early lead until Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) served seven straight points, getting kills from Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/North), Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills), Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) and Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon). Coastal then took the lead 21-17 and never looked back winning game one 30-24. JU's Sara Bendorf had five kills, six digs and Eva Stoilova had four kills, two digs in the loss. Tracey had four kills and 13 assists while Scheible, Rinne and fellow senior Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) all added three kills. The Lady Chants hit .395 in game one.
Jacksonville came from behind to win the second game, 30-28. The two teams matched each other point-for-point until kills from Stevenique Richardson, Bendorf, Amanda Youell, two service aces and two Coastal errors sealed the deal for the Dolphins. Despite a seven-kill effort from junior Nakia Thompson (Lexington, S.C./Lexington), six total blocks and a .265 hitting percentage, the Lady Chanticleers could not overcome its eight errors and the strong arm of Bendorf. Coastal out-killed JU 21-14 while JU hit .174 in the victory.
Jacksonville took an early 16-9 lead in game three off of five kills from Bendorf and six Coastal errors and never looked back in a 30-20 win. The Dolphins took advantage of nine Coastal errors and the strong arm of Bendorf and Amanda Youell who had nine and four kills, respectively. Despite four kills from Scheible and three from Nyhof, Coastal only hit .061 to Jacksonville's .366.
In game four, both teams matched each other in points until Stoilova took the ball and served for five straight points in the 30-21 win for Jacksonville. Bendorf had six kills while the Dolphins hit for .250 on 15 kills. Obert had five kills while Thompson and Rinne each had three. The Lady Chants hit for .102.
Thompson and Rinne had double-doubles for the second match in a row in the loss. Thompson led the offense with 13 kills, 17 digs while Rinne added 10 kills, 17 digs. Several Lady Chants had double-digit kills in the loss, Obert and Nyhof each had 11 kills while Scheible had 10. Libero Pollard had 14 digs and junior Devon West (Ontario, Canada/Cambrian College) scooped up 10.
For Jacksonville, Bendorf exploded with 24 kills and 16 digs and Stoilova added 10 kills and 11 digs.
Coastal ended the game with a .195 hitting percentage, eight total blocks and 28 errors.
The Lady Chanticleers return to action Friday, September 29, when they host Big South rival Winthrop. The match is set for 7 p.m.
