Women's Track and Field Finishes 12th at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's women's track and field team concluded competition at the Clemson Invitational Saturday, Jan. 19 at Clemson's Track & Field Complex. Participating in their first scored meet of the season, the Lady Chanticleers totaled 14 points and finished 12th out of 18 teams. Host Clemson won the meet with 104.5 points.

Sophomore Ikeiylah Brown (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head) had CCU's top performances in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Brown was 10th in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.74. She had advanced to Saturday's finals by running a personal best 7.65 in Friday night's prelims and finishing ninth. In the 200 meters, Brown was fifth with a time of 25.00, which was also a personal best. Also in the 200 meters, junior Amber White (Ladson, S.C,/Stratford) ran 25.28 and finished 10th.

Freshman Vondeeshia Humphries (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) finished eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.95, which was a .41 improvement of her previous top 400-meter time.

The Lady Chants had two runners with top-10 finishes in the mile. Sophomore Theresa Schamberger (Kendalville, Ind./East Noble) was fifth with a time of 5:13.68, while freshman Shelby Donahue (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) ran 5:19.28 and placed 10th.

In the high jump, freshman Kandisa Allicock (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceloa) finished in a three-way tie for ninth place with Clemson's Katie Farnan and Mississippi State's Marissa Harris with a mark of 5'3" (1.60m). Meanwhile, classmate Arielle Miller (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) had the top Lady Chant mark in the triple jump with a 37'10.75" (11.55m) leap, which was good for seventh place. On Friday, Miller also had Coastal's top long jump mark with a 17'4.75" (5.30m) jump and placed 13th.

Senior Laura Flath (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) and junior Claire Young (Laurens, S.C./Thornwell) both tied for 15th in the pole vault, each clearing 10'6" (3.20m).

Freshmen Alexandra Rathburn (Canfield, Ohio/Western Reserve) finished sixth in the shot put with a 41'1" (12.52m) throw.

Also on Friday, freshman Sierrah Oates (Hopkins, S.C./Lower Richland) had CCU's top time in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 9.44 and placing 24th. Rathburn and freshman Brittany Connor (Greenwood, S.C./Emerald) each competed in the weight throw. Rathburn was 13th with a throw of 42'9.75" (13.05m), while Connor placed 16th with a 38'2.75" (11.65m) mark.

The Lady Chanticleers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 when they compete in the Tom Jones Memorial Classic at the University of Florida. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., while track events start at 2 p.m.
