Women's Track & Field Competes In Vertklasse Meeting More Information:
High Point, N.C.- The Coastal Carolina women’s track and field team was in action yesterday, Sat., May 2 in the Vertklasse Meeting hosted by High Point University in High Point, N.C. The meet marked the first home meet in nearly 15 years for the Panthers.
The top performances of the meet came from someone old, as well as well as someone new. Senior LeAuna Sistrunk (Cincinatti, Ohio/Alabama) took the top collegiate finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.12 to place second. Later in the day, the senior won her signature event, the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 14.05 in taking the top spot. The newer face that also excelled on the day was freshman Christian Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) who continued her solid times in the 800-meter this season after a fantastic cross country season. She took the top spot in the race, with a time of 2:16.80.
Mia Wyszynski (Berlin, Germany/Bremen) was another distance athlete that turned in a solid performance, as she placed second in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:55.83.
After competing with a limited squad this weekend, the Chants will send their full compliment of athletes to the UNC Elite meet in Durham, N.C. The meet, hosted by the University of North Carolina, is scheduled as an all-day event.
