UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Richmond head baseball coach Mark McQueen has named Joey Haug to the position of volunteer assistant coach. Haug comes to the Spiders following a standout playing career at Coastal Carolina University.

McQueen also announced that Joe Frostick, who previously served as the volunteer assistant coach for four years, will assume the role of baseball operations volunteer.

Haug will coach the outfielders and assist McQueen with the pitching staff. "I'm very excited to have Joey join our staff," said McQueen. "He was an All-Conference pitcher at Coastal and played in two NCAA Regionals under one of college baseball's most respected coaches in Gary Gilmore. I look forward to him bringing that experience to Richmond."

Haug played his final two collegiate seasons at Coastal, earning First Team All-Big South and Big South All-Tournament Team honors in 2008. The righty was a spotless 7-0 on the mound that year with a 2.28 ERA in 83.0 innings. In 2007, he was 1-0 with a 3.66 ERA in 19.2 innings.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., Haug earned a bachelors degree in communications from Coastal in 2008. He was a two-year starter at Maple Woods Community College in his hometown before transferring. Haug spent the last year as a roving pitching instructor at the Coastal Baseball Academy in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and was an evaluator for thediamondprospects.com.

Current Richmond assistant coach Chad Oxendine was a 2004 graduate of Coastal Carolina.
