PRIMM, NEV. -- Coastal Carolina University women's golf squad slipped three spots in the final round and finished 13th at the inaugural Golfweek Conference Challenge, Sept. 13-15. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the Primm Valley Desert Course (Par 72 - 6,135 yards) in Primm, Nev., just outside of Las Vegas.
The inaugural event had 18 of the 2009 conference team champions from across the nation. The Chanticleers struggled in their final round, shooting a 310 to finish at 928 for the 54 holes. Pepperdine took home the team title with a 17-over 881, one shot better than runner-up California (882), two ahead of Chattanooga (883) and three clear of Ohio State at 884.
Coastal Carolina was paced by senior Aruka Felgueroso, who posted her first top-20 finish of the year with a tie for 16th at 222. Freshman Jessica Henderson was next at 229, good for a tie for 33rd. Freshman Brittany Henderson tied for 61st at 237, while juniors Alicia Grier (240) and Carmen Jones (258) tied for 77th and placed 89th, respectively. Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall led from start to finish in taking home the individual title with a 9-under 207, winning by five shots.
The Chanticleers will next hit the course for the 2009 Bettie Lou Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Fri.-Sun., Sept. 25-27, at the University Course in Lexington, Ky.
