SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team (2-8-1) received multi-goal games from senior Dana Gentile (Utica, N.Y./Herkimer C.C.) and junior Anna Tupy (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) as the Chanticleers defeated USC Upstate (0-9) 5-1 Sept. 21 on a rainy night in Spartanburg, S.C. Gentile recorded her first career hat trick at CCU, while Tupy added two goals in the win.

Coastal Carolina would hold a 9-1 shot advantage in the first half, but Upstate's Dana Hillman had the best chance to score early as her shot went just wide in the first 10 minutes. The Chanticleers took advantage of their opportunities at 30:40 as senior Sarah McPartlan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Loyola Ill.) fed Gentile on the right side. She beat Sian Jenkins to the left corner for her second goal of the season. Just 7:39 later, sophomore Marissa Terry (Charleston, S.C./James Island) passed the ball to Tupy, who headed it past Jenkins on the right corner for her first goal of the season.

Jenkins stopped four shots for the Spartans in the first half, while junior Karen Pavlick (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) did not see a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes. Tupy led Coastal Carolina with two shots. The Chanticleers also had all three corner kicks in the first half.

Gentile would score her second goal of the game at 46:14 as she beat Jenkins to the right side from five yards out on an assist by Tupy. Upstate would score its first goal of the game as a foul led to a free kick from around 19 yards out. Kelsey Shinn would take the kick and score in the left corner, cutting the Coastal Carolina lead to 3-1 at 54:10. Gentile would record the hat trick as she received a pass from senior Samantha Teijelo (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and beat Catherine Nolff to the right corner at 57:54. Tupy ended the scoring at 77:55 when she scored from the center of the box with an assist to freshman Cami Skladany (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales).

The Chants outshot Upstate 16-4 in the match and had all six corner kicks. Pavlick had two saves to record the win in goal. Jenkins and Nolff combined for six saves for the Spartans. Tupy and Gentile had three shots apiece in the win for Coastal Carolina.
