FARMVILLE, Va. - Junior Karen Pavlick (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) had a career high eight saves and senior Samantha Teijelo (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) scored her first career goal, but Longwood (1-2) scored two goals in a 1:33 span for a 2-1 win over the Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team (1-3) Sept. 4 in game two of the Longwood Tournament Sept. 4 in Farmville, Va.
Coastal Carolina took a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to Teijelo's first career goal as a Chanticleer at 25:21. Teijelo scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Senior Karen Pavlick (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) stopped two shots in the first 45 minutes, while both teams had three shots in the first half. Longwood's Kyra Byron had one save on a header shot from senior Sarah McPartlan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Loyola Ill.)).
Pavlick made six saves in the second half to keep the Chanticleers in the match, but Longwood would tie the game at one at 81:21 as Lindsey Ottavio scored on a through ball from Alex Myers. It was Longwood's first goal of the season in its third match. Then 1:33 later, Myers scored on a 25-yard shot for the game-winning tally.
Longwood had a 14-5 shot advantage, including a 10-4 advantage on shots on goal. Longwood also had all five corner kicks in the match. Michelle Disieno and Kacie Oliver led Longwood with three shots, while five different Chants had a shot apiece.
Coastal Carolina will face Richmond Sunday, Sept. 6 at 12 p.m., to wrap up the Longwood Tournament.
