MIAMI LAKES, FLA. -- Coastal Carolina University's women's golf team posted its third straight top-five finish, placing fifth at the 2010 Hurricane Invitational, Feb. 14-16. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at Don Shula's Golf Club (Par 72-6,199 yards) in Miami Lakes, Fla.
Coastal improved two shots from its second to third round to fire a 302 and finish at 902 for the 54 holes. UCF shot 894 to take home the team title by one shot over second-round leader Georgia State at 895, with East Tennessee State in third at 896. San Diego State was fourth at 900. The Chants finished 28 shots ahead of Big South Conference-rival Charleston Southern, who finished 13th at 930.
The Chanticleers were led by senior Aruka Felgueroso, who finished as the runner-up at 4-over 220, three shots behind medalist Christine Wong of San Diego State. This was Felgueroso's her third top-three and fourth top-20 finish in five events this year. Freshman Brittany Henderson was next in a tie for 13th at 226, her best finish this year, with freshman Jessica Alexander tied for 17th at 227. Junior Alicia Grier was next in a tie for 24th at 229, while junior Carmen Jones rounded out the scoring at 259, good for 86th.
The Chanticleers return to the course Mon.-Tue., March 1-2 for the UCF Challenge at the Red Tail Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
