Game One Box Score / Game Two Box Score

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University softball team (8-12) dropped a pair of contests this afternoon, Sunday, March 14 against College of Charleston, losing 9-4 in game one, and 8-0 in game two in five innings.

The Cougars jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, as Kristie Shifflett scored on an error, giving
College of Charleston the early advantage off of Coastal Carolina starter Ashley Frederick.

The Chanticleers answered back in the top of the fourth scoring two runs of their own with two outs. After a line out and a pop-up, Stacy Snellings gave the Chants a base runner by drawing a walk and Cacia Pierre followed her with a hit up the middle to put runners at first and second for Olivia Piccirillo. Piccirillo doubled to left center sending both runners home and giving Coastal the 2-1 lead.

Coastal's momentum was cut short in the bottom of the fourth when College of Charleston added two more runs, taking the 3-2 advantage.

The Chants reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring another two runs to put them ahead 4-3. Just like the fourth inning, Coastal started a two-out rally on a hard-hit ball to the shortstop by Alyssa Tornatore, who later stole second. Jazmin Daigle followed with a hit to center field, scoring Tornatore and tying the game. Michelle Evans singled up the middle to advance Daigle to second, and Stacy Snellings followed with a double down the right field line, driving Daigle home for the 4-3 lead. Coastal loaded the bases after
Pierre got hit by a pitch, but the two-out rally ended with an infield pop-up.

The Cougars again answered back, adding three runs in the bottom of the fifth and taking the lead for the final time.
College of Charleston drove in three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish with a 9-4 win in the opener.

Ashley Frederick took the loss, falling to 5-7 on the season.
Frederick worked five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out four. Megan Johnson struggled as well in relief, allowing four runs on three hits.

Seven Chants recorded one hit each, with Piccirillo, Snellings and Daigle driving in the four runs.
In game two, the Coastal bats went cold, posting just one hit while the Cougars got hot, finishing the game with nine hits. Mecaela Ballard got the lone Coastal hit in the third as she doubled to left field.
College of Charleston recorded one run in each of the first three innings and added five more in the bottom of the fourth.

Stacy Snellings did a good job getting on base, drawing walks both times she was at the plate. The only other base runner the Chants had in game two was Ballard.
Katelin Edwards got the starting nod in the circle, but had trouble finding the strike zone, allowing five runs on seven hits and walking four. Michelle Evans pitched in relief, finishing the game with three runs on two hits.

Coastal finishes this stretch of road trips at USC Upstate Tuesday, March 16, for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at
