HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Former Coastal Carolina University baseball players David Sappelt and Mike Costanzo both played in the Southern League All-Star Game July 12 in Huntsville, Ala. Both players are on the Carolina Mudcats, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
Sappelt was 1-for-2 with a run scored for the North Team. He doubled to center in the second inning and scored on back-to-back singles to give the North an early 2-0 team. The North Team ended up winning the game 3-2. Costanzo came in to play first base in the sixth inning. He struck out in his only time at bat.
Both players have had excellent seasons so far with the Mudcats. Sappelt leads the Southern League with a .338 batting average and has six home runs, 40 runs-batted-in and 14 stolen bases in 63 games played. Costanzo is hitting .272 with six home runs, 11 doubles and 28 RBI in 49 games.
