JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Coastal Carolina freshman Courtney Boe made her collegiate debut a memorable one on her way to the individual title Monday afternoon at the Jacksonville Labor Day Shootout at the TPC at Sawgrass on the PLAYERS Stadium Course.
Boe fired a 111 and shot three over par on the 27-hole course and defeated second place finisher Maria Juliona Loza of Chattanooga by two strokes. Boe shot a 72 in the first round and turned in a very steady performance by making par on 15 of the 18 holes.
Round two was reduced to nine holes due to darkness and poor visibility. Boe finished with a 36 in the second round and birdied the sixth hole.
"I am so proud of Courtney and the way she played today," Coastal head coach Katie Quinney said. "I think it really says a lot about the type of player she is being that it was her first collegiate tournament on one of the harder courses we will play on this year. Her performance was very impressive and hopefully it's a sign of things to come."
Boe's victory helped the Chanticleers claim the team title after turning in a score of 464 to defeat Florida by eight strokes, as the Gators finished tied with Chattanooga with a score of 472.
UCF finished in fourth place with a score of 479, while Jacksonville took fifth and USC Upstate finished in sixth place with scores of 517 and 537, respectively.
"I couldn't be happier about the way we played today as a team," Quinney added. "I can't think of a better way to start the season."
Coastal Sophomore Jessica Alexander finished tied for fourth with a final score of 115. Alexander shot a 73 in the first round and collected four birdies before shooting a 42 on the final nine holes.
Senior Alicia Grier finished third for the Chants and tied for ninth overall with a score of 118. Grier tallied a score of 79 and picked up one birdie in the first round and shot a 39 in the second round.
Taylor Slagle tied for 12th and put together scores of 79 in the first round and 41 in the second round to finish with a score of 120. Slagle birdied holes 14 and 18 in the first round and made par on nine other holes.
Freshman Mariel Curran tied for 30th after shooting a 93 in the first round and 42 in the second round to total a score of 135. Curran picked up a birdie hole 15 in the first round.
Junior Kaitlin Higginbotham finished tied for 20th place with a score of 127 and sophomore Brittany Henderson tied for 26th with a score of 132 playing as individuals.
