CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Coastal Carolina women's tennis team was sent home early despite a pair of doubles teams advancing to the round of 32, at the ITA Regionals held at North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock beat Jenny Lunde and Ioana Oprea of Gardner-Webb, 8-2 in the opening round but were later defeated 8-2 by Yasmine Alkema and Andressa Garcia of the defending Big South Champion, Winthrop.
Dominique De Wit and Amanda Malatek knocked off Natalie Collins and Yilian Zhang of East Carolina, 8-6, in the opening round match but were shut out in round two by Duke's Hanna Mar and Monica Turewicz, 8-0.
After receiving a bye in the opening round, the doubles team of Mikaela Kristofersson and Maria Hesketh lost a tight match to Rebecca Siegler and Zane Zarina, 9-8 (4).
Mortlock and Bunea, the lone Coastal singles qualifiers, were defeated in the opening round of play.
The Chanticleers wrap up the fall season at the UNC Wilmington Fall Invitational held Oct. 28-29, in Wilmington, N.C.
