MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University track & field teams concluded its second home meet of the season with a combined 15 top 10 finishes on the final day.

The Invitational, held at the City of Myrtle Beach's Doug Shaw Stadium, featured 38 teams and over 1,200 athletes from around the country.

The women's team tallied 12 top 10 finishes as it was led by Kierra Gabe's first place finish in the long jump. Gabe leaped 5.27m (17-03.50). She also placed ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.55m (37-10.75).

Picking up second place finishes were Deborah Mattern in the javelin with a throw of 43.33m (142-02) and the 4x100 meter relay team of London Smalls, Darriale Henley, Ashley Davis and Erica Peake. The Chants also fielded two additional 4x100m relay teams with both finishing in the top 10 in the 21-team field.

Caitlin Lupo also turned in a top ten performance in the javelin as she finished third with a toss of 40.60m (133-02).

Shantelle Patterson, who finished fourth in the hammer throw on Friday, matched her performance with a fourth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.87m (42-02.75). Matching Paterson's fourth place finish was Christian Johnson in the 3,000 meters (10:05.36) and the Coastal Carolina 'A' 4x400 meter relay team of Santresa Jamison, Erica Peake, Jerica Howard and Vondeeshia Humphries (3:49.95).

Anjulia Nicholson threw for 43.37m (142-03) in the discus to place sixth.

Rounding out the Chanticleers top ten finishers was Jessica Dennison in the 1,500 meter and Thomasina Smith in the long jump. Dennison crossed the finish line in 4:51.37 while Smith leaped for 4.74m (15-06.75) as both athletes finished ninth in their respective events.

The men's squad claimed three top ten finishes on the final day of the meet. Burton Jones placed third of the 35 competitor field in the triple jump with a leap of 14.68m (48-02.00) to earn Coastal's highest finish on the day.

Defending Big South Champion Jacques Watson placed fourth of 23 in the high jump as he cleared a height of 2.00m (6-06.75).

Kyle Kling ran a 4:03.54 clip in the 1,500 meter to place fourth of the 66 competitors who toed the line to start the race.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on March 24-25 at the Asics Winthrop Invitational held in Rock hill, S.C.
