OXFORD, Miss. - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team turned in a fifth place finish Sunday afternoon after three rounds at the Rebel Intercollegiate from the Ole Miss Golf Course.
The Chanticleers carded a final score of 905 (298-297-310) on the par-72, 6,351 yard course. No. 16 Tennessee won the event by shooting one shot under par on its way to finishing with an overall score of 863 (290-279-294). The Lady Vols set a 54-hole course record to surpass the previous best of 877 set last year by Tulane. Tulsa (300-293-300=893), Tulane (299-307-292=898) and tournament host Ole Miss (298-299-303=900) rounded out the top 5 finishers.
Coastal freshman Courtney Boe paced the Chanticleers and finished tied for 19th after firing an overall score of 224 (71-77-76). Boe tied her career-low with a 71 in round one to go along with four birdies.
Junior Kaitlin Higginbotham was second for Coastal and tied for 23rd following rounds of 73, 76 and 76 en route to a final score of 225.
Sophomore Brittany Henderson completed the tournament tied for 29th with an overall score of 227 (76-75-76). Fellow sophomore Jessica Alexander finished tied for 36th after firing rounds of 78, 69 and 82 on her way to a three-day score of 229. Her second round 69 featured four birdies and one eagle.
Senior Alicia Grier rounded out the Coastal quintet by taking 86th place with a final score of 245 (82-79-84).
Tennessee's Natahlie Mansson won on the third playoff hole against her teammate Erica Popson. Mansson carded a 213 following rounds of 72, 67 and 74.
Coastal Carolina returns to action April 11-13 when the Chanticleers travel to Greenwood, S.C., to take part in the Big South Championships from The Patriot Golf Club.
