BRYAN, Texas - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team concluded its competition on the first day of the NCAA Championships with an overall score of 322 Wednesday afternoon from the Traditions Golf Course.
The Chanticleers are in 24th place on the par-72, 6,260 yard course. Second-ranked UCLA leads the event with an overall score of 289, while No. 5 Virginia (291), No. 4 Purdue (292), No. 7 LSU (292) and No. 25 Florida (294) round out the top 5 teams.
Coastal sophomore Jessica Alexander finished tied for 95th place following her score of 79 in round one. Alexander picked up a birdie on hole 12 and went on to make par on 10 of the next 15 holes.
Freshman Courtney Boe ended the day second for the Chants and tied for 104th overall after carding an 80. Boe made par on six of the first seven holes and finished the back nine with a birdie on hole 18.
Sophomore Brittany Henderson was next for Coastal and enters day two of the tournament tied for 114th after shooting an 81. Henderson opened the event with a double bogey on the first hole of the back nine, but answered by making par on seven of the next eight holes.
Junior Kaitlin Higginbotham shot an 82 and is tied for 118th place. Higginbotham made par on six holes on the back nine and then registered three birdies on the front nine.
Senior Alicia Grier also tied for 118th place following her score of 82. Grier shot a birdie on hole 13 of the back nine and went on to make par on six of nine holes on the front nine.
Coastal Carolina returns to action Thursday morning at 9:55 a.m. (EST) with a shotgun start.
