Chants Move Up Two Spots At NCAA Championships

BRYAN, Texas - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team turned in its best round of the tournament and moved up two spots on Friday on the third day of competition at the NCAA Championships from the Traditions Golf Course.

Play was suspended due to darkness with six teams left on the course. The tournament was delayed for nearly two hours during the afternoon due to lightning in the area. The six teams that were unable to finish will complete round two Saturday morning before the remainder of the tournament resumes.

The Chanticleers sit in 22nd place on the par-72, 6,260 yard course after shooting a 298 Friday in round three. Coastal enters the final day of competition with an overall score of 922 (322-302-298).

Coastal sophomore Jessica Alexander carded a 73 on Friday in round and now owns an overall score of 224 entering the fourth and final round. The Riverview, Fla., native recorded five birdies on Friday and sits tied for 35th place. Alexander birdied two of the final three holes on the back nine and continued her success on the front nine by registering birdies on two of the first three holes. Her final birdie of the day came on the eighth hole before she made par on the ninth hole to finish her day. Alexander shot a 79 Wednesday in round one and a 72 Thursday in round two.

Freshman Courtney Boe posted her best score of the tournament when she finished round three with a 69. Boe, who is now tied for 73rd place, started the back nine with a birdie on the 10th hole before making a hole-in-one on the following hole. The reigning Big South Freshman of the Year went on to make par on six of the final seven holes of the back nine. Boe also carded two birdies on the front nine and made par on six of the other seven holes. The Bluffton, S.C., native shot an 80 in round one and an 81 in round two and has an overall score of 230.

Sophomore Brittany Henderson shot an 81 on Friday and is now tied for 88th place with an overall score of 233. Henderson turned in a steady performance on the front nine by making par on the last seven holes. She carded an 81 Wednesday in round one and followed that with a 71 Thursday in round two.

Junior Kaitlin Higginbotham fired a 78 for the second straight day and is now in 109th place with an overall score of 238. Higginbotham started the back nine with a birdie on the 10th hole and then made par on six other holes. She started the front nine by making par on the first six holes before recording a birdie on the seventh hole. Higginbotham featured a score of 82 in round one before shooting a 78 Thursday in round two.

Senior Alicia Grier posted her best round of the tournament when she carded a 78 Friday in round three. Grier owns an overall score of 245 and enters the final day of the event tied for 119th place. Grier turned in strong finishes on both the back and font nine Friday in round three. The Hagerstown, Md., native made par on hole 17 before recording a birdie on the final hole of the back nine. On the front nine, Grier closed her nine holes by making par on hole 7, collecting a birdie on hole 8 and finished by making par on the ninth hole. Grier fired an 82 in round one and an 85 in round two.

Coastal Carolina will tee off Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. (EST) in the fourth and final day of the tournament.
