DURHAM, N.C. - Six members of the Coastal Carolina women's track and field team competed in the Duke Twilight on Sunday evening. The meet is one of the final events before the first round of the NCAA Championships start on May 26.
Five Chanticleers competed in the 1,500 meter run with all finishing in the top 15 in the field. Christian Johnson led the way for the ladies in teal and black as she turned in a time of 4:38.99 to place fifth. Emily Marchini and Jamie Brusa finished within two seconds of one another to claim the 10th and 11th. Marchini completed the race in 4:42.84 as Brusa followed closely behind in 4:44.05. Freshman Shelby Nicosia placed 12th in 4:52.11 while Janel Reeves rounded out the Coastal finishes with a 4:57.98. Marchini, Brusa and Nicosia's times were season bests.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase Jessica Dennison placed third as she crossed the finish line in 11:31.53.
A full Coastal squad will return to action starting on Friday, May 13 at the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
