ATHENS, Ga. - The Georgia Bulldogs scored three times in the first quarter and took advantage of three Coastal Carolina miscues to claim a 59-0 decision over the Chanticleers Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium.
On its first possession, after a converting its first third down, Georgia got on the board when Isaiah Crowell scored from 27 yards out for an early 7-0 lead. After another punt, Georgia went 55 yards on 10 plays with Aaron Murray giving the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead with a one-yard quarterback sneak.
The Chants defense settled down and forced a fourth and one from the Coastal 32. However, Georgia went for it and Murray hit a streaking Tavarres King for a 32-yard TD, putting Georgia up 21-0 with 1:42 left in the first.
Georgia took advantage of a Coastal penalty to go up 28-0 with six minutes left in the first half. After missing a 42-yard field goal, the Bulldogs got a second chance due to a penalty. Three plays later, Murray found Malcolm Mitchell in the endzone for a seven-yard score. With six ticks left before the break, Murray and King hooked up for a second TD in the half, this one coming from one yard out froa 35-0 margin.
The second half began with Georgia's Blair Walsh kicking a 56-yard field goal, the longest the Chants have given up in this the program's ninth year. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 45-0, putting together a 10-play drive capped by a one-yard Hutson Mason rushing TD.
On the ensuing kickoff, Coastal fumbled the ball and Georgia recovered. On the next play, Mason hit Orson Charles for a 33-yard touchdown pass, giving UGa a 52-0 lead and marking third time in CCU history a team had thrown for four scores in a game.
The Bulldogs took advantage of another turnover on the kicking game when a fumbled punt return by the Chants led to a two-play scoring drive. Carlton Thomas pushed Georgia's lead to 59-0 with a 17-yard rushing TD.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Georgia partially blocked a punt, giving the Bulldogs the ball on the CCU 38.
Aramis Hillary was 10-of-15 passing for 27 yards, throwing his first interception of the season. On defense, Josh Norman and Johnnie Houston each had nine stops for the Chants.
Coastal Carolina will remain on the road, traveling to Greensboro, N.C., to face North Carolina A&T next Saturday (Sept. 24).
