CLEMSON, S.C. - Coastal Carolina had a strong showing during the opening day of the Clemson Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27 by posting 14 top 10 performances.

Kierra Gabe had the best performance of the day for Coastal Carolina, winning the high jump after clearing 1.65 meters (5-05.00).

Sophie Perry provided the Chanticleers with a second place showing in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.54. Christian Johnson completed the race in 2:19.60 to take fourth.

Shantelle Patterson had a strong showing in the shot put, taking third following a throw of 12.50 meters (41-00.25). Brittany Connor posted a mark of 11.15 meters (36-07.00) to finish in seventh and Naomi Atkins was eighth following a toss of 10.91 meters (35-09.50).

During the 60 meter dash Darriale Henley and Gabrielle Lee finished back-to-back with Henley recording a 7.76 to take fourth and Lee completing the race in 7.78 for a fifth place showing.

Henley also participated in the long jump where she came in fifth place with a mark of 5.45 meters (17-10.75). .

Setting the pace for Coastal in the 400 meter dash was Santresa Jamison who finished the event in a time of 57.86 to take eighth place. Finishing in a close ninth place was Qwontajah Thompson who completed the race in 58.51 and Sharmaine Barnes rounded out the top ten with a time 58.78.

Christina Davis posted a time of 8.97 in the 60 meter hurdles placing eighth overall. Camille Hurley and Ashley Davis were within .02 of each other in the event as Hurley recorded a 9.04 to come in 10th and Davis posted a 9.06 to grab 11th place. Baker notched a time of 9.51 in the event to take 13th.

The Clemson Invitational will continue on Saturday, Jan. 27 with the field events beginning at noon and the track events starting at 1 p.m.
