Susie Maxwell Berning Classic Live Scoring/Results
NORMAN, Okla. - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team carded an 11-over 299 to climb from a tie for seventh into sole possession of third place in the 18-team field after 36 holes of the Oklahoma-hosted Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the 6,327-yard, par-72 Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
The host Sooners, ranked 18th by Golfstat, led the event with a two-day total of 579. No. 22 Texas Tech (596) is in second followed by the Chants (297-299 - 596). No. 20 Notre Dame (599) and Kansas (600) round out the top five team positions with 18 holes left to play.
Senior Brittany Henderson led the Chants on the day with an even-par 72 to tie for 10th overall (75-72 - 147) after two rounds. Henderson had an avant-garde front nine as she opened and closed the side with double-bogeys; however, three birdies between the doubles left her at 1-over as she made the turn. She would counter two bogeys on the back nine with three birdies, including her last two holes of the day to turn in her third round of par or better of the season.
Jessica Alexander is also tied for 10th (74-73 - 147) in the 95-competitor field after firing a 1-over 73. A 2012 All-Big South Conference selection, Alexander's day included two birdies (both on the front nine) and 13 pars compared to only three bogeys.
Marissa Hinchman and Frida Castillo both finished the round with a 5-over score of 77. Hinchman sank two birdie putts and sits in a tie for 49th overall (78-77 - 155). Castillo also turned in a pair of birdies and is tied for 28th overall (75-77 - 152).
Freshman Lena Schaeffner carded an 80 (+8) in the second round to stand tied for 35th with a two-round total of 153 (73-80).
