Feb. 25, 2012

Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team opened the Big South Conference season with a 4-3 win over Liberty on Saturday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.

Coastal got on the board first after sweeping the doubles portion to earn the first point.

The Chants followed by winning the first two singles matches to take a 3-0 lead against the Flames. Leo Christofides and Yusuke Kusuda both won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 from the second and third spots, respectively.

Danny Heidecker would drop his match 7-6, 6-4 from the No. 1 position to give Liberty its first match. It was the first match Coastal had lost after blanking its previous three opponents. Coastal would bounce back as Garik Yedigarian won his match 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Chanticleers.

"This was a hard fought college tennis match," said head coach Chris Powers. "Liberty is a well-coached team. I am really proud of our young program and I believe we can still improve on today's performance."

Coastal will travel to Buies Creek, N.C., on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to face the Campbell Camels at 2 p.m.
