Final Stats

MYRTLE BEACH - Coastal Carolina pitcher Tyler Herb was almost a one-man show Thursday leading the Coastal Carolina (3-1) baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Kansas State in the first game of the Caravelle Resort Tournament at TicketReturn.com Field.

The game featured strong pitching, as the game lasted just two hours and 16 minutes, with just one earned run of the combined three scored.

Herb (2-0) struck out five and allowed just three hits over eight innings. As impressive as he was on the mound, he was even more so in the field, accounting for nine more outs and being involved in of 14 of 24 possible outs as he got seven assists and two putouts. Herb would allow one unearned run and walked four in the win.

Freshman Seth Lamando picked up his second save of the season. He got two quick strikeouts before hitting a batter and walking one. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Lamando induced a ground ball to end the game.

Kansas State (2-2) also was the recipient of a strong pitching outing. Nate Williams ( 1-1) scattered seven hits over 6.1 innings, throwing just 87 pitches, while allowing two runs (one earned) and two walks with three strikeouts. Jared Moore worked the final 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

Kansas State took advantage of a Coastal error to take a 1-0 in lead in the second. Ross Kivett had a leadoff single, stole second and scored when RJ Santigate reached on an error.

The Chanticleers tied the game in the fourth. Ted Blackman had a leadoff single, Alex Buccilli walked and Colin Hering loaded the bases with a bunt single. Blackman scored when Will Remillard grounded into a double play.

Coastal manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 2-1 lead. Jake Kane had an infield single to start the home half and moved to second on a Brian Pruett's sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch moved Kane to third, Zach Remillard hit a shallow fly ball down the right field line. Kansas State right fielder threw an errant ball home, allowing Kane to score what proved to be the game-winning run.

Coastal Carolina will return to action Friday at 3 pm as it hosts the Elon Phoenix. Prior to the game, Elon will play #8 Kentucky at 11 am. The Caravelle Resort Tournament schedule concludes Saturday with Kansas State facing Elon at 11 am and Coastal hosting #8 Kentucky at 3 pm.
