Final Stats

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Down 3-0 early, UNC Wilmington scored three runs in the third inning and five in the fourth to claim a 13-7 victory over Coastal Carolina Wednesday afternoon at Brooks Field. The Seahawks (11-6) have won five straight while the Chanticleers fall to 7-10.

The loss spoiled a good day for Coastal catcher Will Remillard. The sophomore was 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored, a double and a home run.

The Seahawks pounded out a season-high 16 hits. Tyler Molinaro led the way with four as Michael Bass, and Ryan LaGrange each had three.

Coastal took advantage of three walks, a hit by pitch and an infield hit to take an early 2-0 lead. Jake Kane and Tyler Chadwick drew one-out walks and Nick Oberg plated Kane with an RBI single to shortstop. After Ted Blackman walked to load the bases, the Seahawks turned to Ryan Foster out of the bullpen but the relief pitch hit Jacob May with the first pitch to force home Chadwick. Foster rebounded to record a strikeout in three pitches to limit the damage.

The Chants added a run in the third. With the bases loaded and no outs, Chadwick hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Remillard, who hit a leadoff double. UNCW's Foster induced an inning-ending double play to keep the game close.

The Seahawks tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. Molinaro and Terrence Connelly each singled and, with one out, Bass hit a three-run home run to left-center field for his fourth round-tripper of the season.

UNCW took an 8-3 lead in the fourth, scoring five runs thanks to two CCU errors. LaGrange hit a one-out triple to straight-away center field. Two batters later, Drew Farber singled to left. After walking his first batter of the day - versus five strikeouts, Patrick Corbett was relieved by Seth Lamando. With runners on second and third, Bass looped a single to left center. A throwing error on the play allowed a run to score and put runners on second and third. Andy Austin followed with a ground ball to shortstop, but an error allowed two runs to score to cap a streak of eight unanswered runs by the Seahawks.

The Chants cut their deficit in half, 8-4, in the fifth as Remillard hit a solo home run down the left field line marking his first as a Chanticleer and the fourth of his career.

The Seahawks got that run back for a 9-4 lead and threatened to make it more before Mike Morrison recorded a strikeout with the bases loaded to keep the game a four-run contest. For UNCW, LaGrange, Molinaro and Farber had consecutive singles, the last being an RBI to score LaGrange.

Molinaro gave this squad a 10-5 lead in the seventh with a solo home run to center. UNCW added three runs in the eighth. Bass had a leadoff double, moved to third on a ground ball and scored on Ridge's RBI ground out. Luis Renvil, who reached on an error, scored on a two-out single by LaGrange. Molinaro followed with an RBI double to center to give the Seahawks a 13-5 win.

In the ninth, May doubled and scored on Remillard's RBi single to center. Remillard took second and scored on Alex Buccilli's single up the middle to provide the 13-7 final.

Corbett (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs (five earned). Ricky Holden (3-1) earned the win in relief. He allowed two hits and two runs with four walks and three strikeouts in four innings.

Coastal Carolina will return to action this weekend hosting the Chanticleer Classic. The Chant will host Michigan Friday at 4 pm and Saturday at 3 pm. CCU will host Akron Sunday at 3 pm.
