PONTE VERDE BEACH, FLA. - Coastal Carolina women's golf is holding onto a nine-stroke lead after two rounds of play at the JU Classic. The Chanticleers finished the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event 8-over par (295-289=584) to lead second-place Dayton State College (298-295=593). North Florida rounds out the top three teams at the tournament, sitting 19-over par. Coastal's first and second round scores also mark season-best 18-hole team scores.
Junior Marissa Hinchman leads the Chanticleers and the tournament field after two rounds; she is in first place overall after shooting 4-under par on the day (70-70=140). Fellow junior Lena Schaeffner and freshman Malene Krolboll Hansen join Hinchman in the top-10 on the leaderboard. Tied for sixth overall, Schaeffner carded rounds of 75-71 for a 2-over 146. Hansen is tied for eighth, posting rounds of 74-73 to total a 3-over 147.
Emee Herbert is tied for 26th overall with rounds of 76 and 75 for a 7-over 151 total. Bailey Cocca (77-76=153) is tied for 32nd overall.
Coastal led the field in par-3 scoring through the two rounds, playing the holes combined 5-under par. In addition, the Chanticleers also paced the field in par-4 scoring (+14), while ranking second in par-5 scoring (+8). Individually, Hinchman led the field through the par-4's, playing the holes 4-under.
The Chants tee off on the final round of the tournament Tuesday morning.
