PONTE VERDE BEACH, FLA. - Coastal Carolina women's golf won the JU Classic Tuesday, closing the tournament with 290 over the final 18 holes of competition. The Chanticleers totaled the third-best a 54-hole tally in program history with an 874 (+10). Junior Marissa Hinchman led Coastal's winning efforts, capturing individual medalist honors with a career-best 3-under 213 score.

The Chanticleers (295-289-290) also led after 36 holes of play en route to their 23-stroke victory. The tournament win is the Coastal's first this season and the 19th in program history. Troy (298-302-297=897) claimed runner-up honors followed by North Florida (298-297-304=899). Dayton State (298-295-307=900) and Charleston Southern (303-296-309=908) rounded out the top five.

"This was a great team victory," said head coach Katie Quinney. "To win this tournament and have several of the ladies record personal-best individual finishes in the process is a wonderful feeling and I believe it is a glimpse at what we are capable of achieving this season. Each of the ladies played great these past two days and I am extremely proud of their collective efforts."

Hinchman (70-70-73) captured her first-career tournament title with a 1-over 73 over her final round to defeat Maryland's Juliet Vongphoumy and Daytona State's Tiffany Chan by a single stroke. Hinchman finished the event with 11 birdies and 35 pars on the par-72, 5,987-yard Marsh Landing Country Club that played to an average score of 77.54.

Lena Schaeffner (75-71-71) placed fourth overall with a 1-over 217 tally. She closed the tournament with a 71, marking her second under-par round of the tournament and the 15th round of par or better of her Chanticleer career. She finished the tournament with seven birdies and 39 pars.

Freshman Malene Krolboll Hansen (74-73-73) turned in the best finish of her career, tying for sixth overall with a 4-over 220 score. Krolboll used a 1-over 73 on her final round to climb two spots up the individual leaderboard and finish two strokes behind Schaeffner. She led Coastal with 40 pars during the tournament and ranked second along with Hinchman in par-3 scoring, playing the holes a combined 3-under.

Emee Herbert (76-75-73) tied for 13th, turning in a three-day score of 8-over 224. She surged 13 spots up the individual leaderboard with her 1-over 73, which featured three birdies, during the final round. Overall, she registered five birdies and 37 pars over the 54 holes of play.

Bailey Cocca (77-76-74=227) tied for 20th overall. She sank four birdies putts during her final round, including three on the front nine. Cocca concluded the event with eight birdies and 30 pars.

The Chanticleers now turn their focus to the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted at the Turtle Pointe Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C. The 54-hole tournament, which will be the Chants' final of the fall 2014 season, gets underway on Oct. 26 and concludes on the 28th.
