Palmetto Intercollegiate Day 1 Results 
KIAWAH ISLAND - Led by Lena Schaeffner's career-best tying round 68, the Coastal Carolina women's golf team sits atop the leaderboard at the College of Charleston-hosted Palmetto Intercollegiate. In addition to pacing the Chanticleers, Schaeffner and GRU Augusta's Eunice Yi co-lead all competitors at the par-72, 5,972-yard Kiawah Island Resort - Turtle Point course.
The Chanticleers shot a program record 6-under 282 to post a three-stroke lead over 30th-ranked Furman (285). No. 25 GRU Augusta and No. 39 Kansas are tied for third after 18 holes with matching even-par 288 scores.
Schaeffner's 4-under 68 featured five birdies and 12 pars against a single bogey. The junior posted four of her five birdies on the back nine.
Freshman Malene Krolboll Hansen and senior Emee Herbert join Schaeffner in the top-10 on the leaderboard. Tied for fourth overall, Hansen carded a collegiate-best round of 2-under 70. Her round included four birdies - two on each nine. Herbert is tied for seventh, posting a career-best 1-under round of 71.
Marissa Hinchman is tied for 14th overall turning in a 1-over 73 round. Bailey Cocca rounded out the CCU contingent with an 8-over 80.
Coastal led the field in par-4 scoring during the opening round, playing the holes combined 2-over par. In addition, the Chanticleers also paced the field, along with GRU Augusta, with 19 total birdies. Individually, Hansen and Schaeffner ranked first and second in par-4 scoring, playing the holes 4-under and 3-under, respectively.
The Chants tee off on round two of the tournament Monday morning. The event concludes with a final 18 holes of play on Tuesday.
