Charlotte, N.C. - Philippe Tsangaridis of the Coastal Carolina University men's tennis team has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week, the league announced today. It is the first such honor for the junior transfer from the University of Alabama.

Last Tuesday, Tsangaridis set a Coastal Carolina record when he became the first Chanticleer men's tennis player to break into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's ranking of the top 125 singles players, coming in at #109.

Tsangaridis broke another Coastal record later in the week by downing #13 Joran Vliegen of East Carolina, the highest-ranked opponent ever defeated by a Chanticleer men's tennis player. After falling 2-6 in the first set, Tsangaridis rallied to win the second set 6-4 and pull off a close 7-6 third set. The Chanticleers won the match 4-1.

Tsangaridis currently holds a 4-3 singles record and 3-3 doubles record this season.

The Chanticleers return to the court on Friday when they host Appalachian State in a 1 p.m. match at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. The Chants also play host to Richmond on Sunday for another 1 p.m. contest.

Schedule Note: Coastal has added one new match to its schedule - it will travel to #13 Duke on Feb. 27 for a 2:30 p.m. match.
