Greensboro, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team rallied to tie the match after falling behind 3-0 early, but ultimately fell 4-3 at UNC Greensboro in the Chants' 2015 season opener.

The Spartans won the opening doubles point, as well as the first two singles points, before Libby Scott, Sara Bondar and Romane Delay picked up singles wins to tie the match. The match was decided on the fifth court, where first-year Chant Natalie Wall fell in three sets to UNCG's Amy Ellis.

"Today we had some bright spots, and we also had some spots that need work," said Chanticleer head coach Catherine Hewitt. "It was like a mirror test in that it showed us the good and the bad."

Sourneya Anana and Ellis started the match with an 8-2 win over Wall and Bondar at No. 3 doubles. Scott/Delay evened the doubles point on the first court with an 8-4 Chanticleer victory over Kayla Gammie/Corinne Blythe, but Blaine Boaz/Stephanie Falcon tipped the point in the Spartans' favor with an 8-7 (7-5) win at No. 2.

Falcon and Gammie put UNCG ahead 3-0 with singles wins on the second and third courts. Scott gave the Chants their first point of the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1, followed by Bondar's 6-3, 6-3 victory over Grinberg at No. 6. Delay then downed Blythe 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, setting up the tiebreaking match on the fifth court.

Ellis outlasted Wall in the first set 7-6 (8-6), before the Chanticleer rookie stormed back 6-1 in the second set. Wall was unable to carry that momentum into the third set, where Ellis sealed the match 6-1.

"We look forward to working hard this week, and playing our inaugural match at our new facility," said Hewitt.

The Chants are set to open the new Coastal Carolina Tennis Facility on Saturday, Jan. 31, with a noon match against USC Upstate.
