CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team suffered their first loss in the Big South Conference season on Wednesday evening versus the Campbell Camels after a first half goal to take the 1-0 victory.

The defeat also ended a six game unbeaten streak for the Chanticleers, who fell to an 8-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Conference. Campbell improved to a 10-5-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the conference.

The Chants generated most of the attack during the beginning of the half tallying six shots to the Camels three. Kayla Christian started off the attack with a cross in the first minutes of the half hitting off the cross bar and bouncing back towards the six-yard box but cleared by the Camel defense.

Minutes later, Camille Christie had a one touch shot off a cross from Amber Adams but was blocked by a Camel defender.

An intense battle between the Chants and the Camels continued with back and forth attacking chances from each team. Daniella Famili took a 30 yard shot forcing the Campbell keeper to make a diving save in the 28th minute. Campbell answered right back with a shot forcing Becca Austin as well, to make a diving save.

Campbell found the back of the net in the 41st minute from a cross by Campbell forward Ashley Clark who sent one to the back post finding teammate Shannon Wratchford and volley it in for the 1-0 lead.

Dangerous chance from Darbie Kelley with the final minutes of the half after a lay off from Marissa Stovring at the top of the box. Kelley one touched it and drives it towards the upper-90 but just goes wide of the goal post.

Coastal ended the half leading Campbell in shots (6-3) and in corner kicks (5-0).

The Chants came out strong in the second half controlling most of the possession in the first minutes. Right off the bat, Adams had a cross attempt that was sent towards the front post where Kelley made a run but was unable to create anything out of it.

Following multiple Coastal offensive attacks, Campbell had two back to back very dangerous chances each forcing Austin to make a save. A long distance shot from outside the box but Austin was able to make a diving save but the Camel offense was there for the rebound but missed on the outside of the net.

Coastal answered with an overload on the attack with three shots and a corner but was unable to finish in the final third. Kelley had the best attempt in the second half off a free kick outside side the box, hitting one to the right upper-90 but the keeper was able to make the save.

The Chants ended the game with an 18-9 edge over Campbell in shots, with Kelley leading the team in shots with four.

Coastal will return home on Saturday Oct. 17th for a 3 p.m. match-up with the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs. Saturday will also feature a double header with the men's team who will play before the women at noon. Both matches will be streamed live on the Big South Network.
