CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team continued their winning streak at home with a 4-1 victory over the Radford Highlanders Wednesday afternoon.
Just eight seconds into the game, Amber Adams puts one in the back of the net to put the Chants up 1-0, tying the 6th fastest in NCAA history. The record for fastest goal scored in NCAA history is :04 seconds set by North Carolina in 2006.
Adams received a pass from kickoff, turned to take on one defender then blasted one to the opposite right corner for the goal. This was Adams fifth goal of the season.
Following the rapid start from the Chanticleers, Sam Patterson netted one in the 16th minute to put the Chants up 2-0. Patterson rebounds one off of a shot from Danielle Famili to score.
Radford was not letting up after going down two goals, scoring directly off a corner kick in the 33rd to make it a 2-1 game. Highlander Jordan Lundin was on the ball sending one towards near post and was able to slip it past Becca Austin.
Going into the second half, Coastal continued to control most of the possession recording nine shots to Radford's five.
Freshman Kayla Christian gained momentum in the second half netting two goals just five minutes apart to secure Coastal's victory. The first goal came from a central pass from Camille Christie sending it out wide to set up Christian who took one touch cutting the Radford defender to send it home for goal number three. Minutes later Christian answered her goal with another off a rebound tallying her second goal of the night. Christian now leads the team in goals with eight, just ahead of Famili with seven.
Coastal ended with nine shots each half giving them 18 on the night, while Radford recording 11 on the night. Austin recorded five saves on the night giving her 77 saves on the season.
The Chants move to a 6-1-1 in conference play, 10-5-1 overall while Radford dropped to a 1-8-0 in conference play and 6-11-0 overall. Coastal is one win away from tying and two away from besting its 11 win season in the 2014 campaign.
The Chanticleers return to action this Saturday Oct 24. as they travel to Virginia with a match-up against the Liberty Flames. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
