CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team bounced back from a loss in its last outing with a convincing 6-1 win over Francis Marion on Thursday at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.

The Chanticleers grabbed the win despite the windy conditions at the courts, and improve their record to 4-2. Francis Marion, meanwhile, drops to 1-3.

A hard-won doubles point resulted in a 1-0 Coastal lead to start off the match.

The Chants swept in doubles, but not without a fight from the Patriots. Coastal's first and third pairs of Tsangarides/Pereira and Velickovic/Timmerman each won their respective matches 8-5. On the second court, Samed/Yedigarian edged Wahlier/Rottlinsberger 8-6.

Coastal gained momentum as the match wore into singles, and the Chants claimed five of the six remaining points to polish off the day.

Each of Coastal's wins on courts two through six were decided in straight sets. Pereira and Velickovic both ran through their respective opponents by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Yedigarian downed Wahlier at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4, and Al-Mutawa claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Heywood on the fifth court. Jakubov edged Mago on the sixth court 6-4, 7-5 for the Chants' final singles point.

Ashforth recorded the lone point of the day for Francis Marion, coming back from a 2-6 first set to defeat Tsangarides 7-5, 10-8.

"Conditions were tough today for both teams," said head coach Chris Powers. "It wasn't much fun, but I thought we did a good job brining intensity early in singles after a relatively flat doubles point."

The Chants are back at it on Saturday as they play host to Wofford for a 1 p.m. match at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
