Statesboro, Ga. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team extended its current winning streak to seven matches on Wednesday as the Chanticleers (8-4, 2-0) picked up their third straight win on the road with a 5-2 victory at Georgia Southern (7-3).
Libby Scott and Marie Babayan kicked off the match with an 8-3 victory over Giulia Riepe and Jordana Klein on the third doubles court. Honami Yazawa and Sara Bondar then delivered the opening point by defeating Francisca Norregaard and Daria Vasekina 6-1 at No. 2.
Cari Berry and Romane Delay fell 8-6 to Mary Phillips Smith and Anne Kurzweil at No. 1 after the point had already been decided.
As play turned to singles Scott once again kicked things off for the Chants, besting Smith 6-0, 6-3 to give Coastal a 2-0 lead. Berry extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6, and Babayan clinched the match in straight sets at No. 5 after Kurzweil delivered the first point of the day for the Eagles at No. 3.
Yazawa fell to Klein in her No. 1 singles match, and Bondar closed the match with a three-set win over Riepe at No. 4.
The Chants return home from their three-match road swing to host Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. match at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
