Box Score March 15, 2015

Final Stats

CONWAY - Three Chanticleers hit home runs while eight CCU pitchers combined to strike out 14 batters. However, Bryant kept the game close before falling 10-7 to Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Coastal Carolina (13-6) won for the fourth consecutive game and will host Clemson Tuesday (Mar. 17) at 6 pm. Bryant falls to 2-11.

G.K. Young hit a two-run shot in the first inning, Zach Remillard (2-for-4 with three RBI) gave CCU a 7-3 lead with a three-run blast in the fifth inning and David Parrett (2-for-3 with three RBI) hit a solo homer in the sixth.

While Bryant did out-hit Coastal, 11-9, each of the Bulldogs' first five batters had two strikeouts. CCU starter Zach Hopeck (2-0) accounted for most of the K's as he tied a career high with five strikeouts in three innings. Andrew Beckwith struck out two of the three batters he faced and Mike Morrison recorded two K's in an inning's work to earn his third save of the season.

The Chants raced out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff batter Anthony Marks reached on an error and moved to second on a Michael Paez sacrifice bunt. Connor Owings brought home Paez with an RBI double and Young followed with a two-run home run. The blast, which bounced off the top of the wall in left center field, was Young's third of the season.

Bryant answered with a run in the top of the second. Cole Fabio walked with one out in the top of the second which snapped a streak of 68 consecutive batters Hopeck faced without a walk dating back to his first outing of the season. Robby Rinn made the mistake pay with an RBI double off the center field wall.

The Bulldogs trimmed their deficit to one, 3-2, in the fourth. Rinn singled and scored on an RBI double by Buck McCarthy. McCarthy moved to third on a single to center field by pinch hitter Zach Wood to put runners on the corner with two outs. Thomas DuRant limited the damage by striking out Jordan Mountford to end the inning.

Coastal regained a two-run lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Chadwick walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, took third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.

Bryant got to within one run again in the fifth. With one out, Matt Albanese singled while John Mullen and Fabio walked to load the bases. Rinn reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Albanese on the play. Austin Kerr kept it a one-run game by inducing an inning-ending fly out.

Coastal once again responded to Bryant's charge. After leadoff walks to Paez and Owings, BU pitcher Trevor Lacosse got a strikeout and pop out. However, Remillard cleared the bases with a three-run home run to left field. It was Remillard's first home run of the season and put CCU up by a score of 7-3.

Parrett gave CCU an 8-3 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, marking the junior's fourth round tripper of the season.

Coastal tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 10-3 lead. Casey Schroeder singled and Chadwick walked to set the stage for Parrett's two-run single to right field.

The Bulldogs took advantage of two CCU errors to score four runs in the eighth to make the score 10-7. Rinn singled to start the frame. Pinch hitter Matt Zonotta reached on an error. Brandon Bingle singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, Mountford doubled home a pair of runs on put runners on second and third. Albanese followed with a two-run single.
