Final Stats

Lynchburg, Va. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team held a 3-1 lead, but could not close out the match as Liberty rallied to defeat the Chanticleers 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Chants to 6-5 overall, 1-1 in Big South play. The win improves Liberty to 8-6 overall, and gave the Flames their first conference win of the season.

Coastal started the match hot, sweeping the Flames in doubles to post a 1-0 lead.

Philippe Tsangarides and Kaue Pereira started with an 8-5 win over Dillon Segur and Diego Castano on the first court. Renan Samed/Pedro Leme and Vuk Velickovic/Rick Timmerman followed with 8-6 victories on the second and third courts, respectively.

As play turned to singles, Timmerman extended the Chants' lead to 2-0 after posting a 6-2, 6-1 result on the sixth court.

Sam Matheson gave Liberty its first point on the third court, defeating Velickovic in straight sets. Samed responded with a three-set win at No. 5 to give Coastal its 3-1.

Liberty then closed the match with wins on the second, first and fourth courts to complete the comeback.

Coastal is back in action on Sunday for a noon match at Longwood.
