2015 Big South Championship Round One Results

GEORGETOWN - After a wash out on day one of the Big South Women's Golf Championship and nearly three hours of delay due to rain on Tuesday, the Coastal Carolina women's golf team completed its opening round of the championship with a 13-over 301 score to stand in first place heading into Wednesday's final round contested at the par-72, 6,191-yard DeBordieu Club.

Coastal leads the championship, which was originally scheduled as a 54-hole event was shortened to a 36-hole tournament due to the torrential rainfall along the Grand Strand, by 13 strokes over Campbell (314) and Gardner-Webb (314). Radford is fourth after posting a 315 followed by Winthrop (321), Longwood (325), High Point (326), Charleston Southern (326) and Presbyterian College (343).

Malene Krolboll Hansen shot the low round of the day with an even-par 72 and holds a one stroke lead on the individual leaderboard over teammate Lena Schaeffner. Hansen, the 2015 Freshman of the Year, played the front nine 1-under with birdies on the par-4 third and seventh holes. She then made a pair of pars to start the back nine before bogeying 12. She went on to finish the round with six straight pars.

Schaeffner, who was named the league's Golfer of the Year prior to the championship, shot a 1-over 73 to finish the round in second. She played her front nine blemish free, making the turn at even-par. She opened the back nine with two more pars before going 1-under with her first birdie of the championship on the par-4 12th hole. However bogeys on 13 and 16 moved her to one-over for the day.

Joining Hansen and Schaeffner in the top-10 was senior Emee Herbert. The all-conference selection shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for sixth. She made the turn at 3-over, but quickly moved to 5-over with a double-bogey on 10. However, she steadied and played her next five holes 2-under with birdies on 12 and 14. A bogey on 16 followed by pars on 17 and 18 left her 4-over for the day.

Bailey Cocca and Frida Castillo shot matching 8-over 80s to stand tied for 15th in the 45-competitor field. Cocca's round benefitted from two birdies and eight pars. Castillo made 10 pars and her lone birdie of the round come on the 18th hole after knocking her approach shot to within six feet.

Coastal will be paired with Campbell and Gardner-Webb for Wednesday's final round, which is set to tee off at 8:50 a.m.
