BRADENTON, Fla. - Coastal Carolina University's Lena Schaeffner concluded her 2014-15 campaign Sunday at the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships. The junior concluded the Championship with a 3-over 75 on the par-72, 6,468-yard The Concessions Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
The Rettigheim, Germany, native improved each round on the difficult track. After an opening round 83, she carded a 78 on round two before notching her 75. Her three-round total 236 (+20) tied her for 78th in the 132-competitor field.
Schaeffner, the 2015 Big South Golfer of the Year and championship medalist, opened her third and final round with a par before carding a double-bogey and a bogey on holes two and three. She then made par on hole four and followed with a birdie on the par-4, 392-yard fifth. She reeled off three straight pars before a bogey on nine sent her to the 10th tee box 3-over.
She played the first five holes of the back nine at par then traded birdies and pars over the final four holes for her 3-over 75.
Schaeffner closes the finest individual season in Chanticleer history with a 72.94 scoring average. Her stroke average sets the Coastal Carolina single season record, surpassing Aruka Felgueroso's previous record of 73.43 which had stood since the 2009-10 season.
