RALEIGH, N.C. - Led by 2015 Big South Conference Golfer of the Year and All-American candidate Lena Schaeffner, the Coastal Carolina women's golf team shot a 15-over 303 and is tied for 12th at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, played at NC State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Schaeffner, who is playing in her second NCAA Regional in her third collegiate season, shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard. Schaeffner, who teed off on No. 9, opened the round with a pair of pars before trading bogeys and birdies for the ensuing four holes. She then made three consecutive par putts to make the turn at even. She started her back nine with a bogey on the 514-yard, par-5 first hole, but recovered to play par golf the remainder of the round.

Seventh-ranked LSU is the leader in the clubhouse, notching even-par 288. Host NC State (290, +2) and Ohio State (292, +4) round out the top-three teams. The Chanticleers, ranked 49th, are in a good place in regards to preparing for Friday's "moving day" leading into Saturday's final round as they trail sixth-place and second-ranked South Carolina by only eight strokes. The top six teams advance to NCAA National Championship in Athens, Ga.

Senior Frida Castillo, who is also playing in her second NCAA Regional, owned the Chanticleers' second-best score of the day with a 3-over 75. Castillo made the turn at 2-over with three bogeys and a birdie. Her back nine proved to be much friendlier as her only blemish came as a bogey on the par-4, 386-yard fifth hole. She is part of a 14-way tie for 34 in the 96-competitor field.

Bailey Cocca made her Regional debut with a 5-over 77 score and is tied for 55th after her first time around the par-72, 6,381-yard course. Cocca was 2-over with seven pars through nine holes. She moved to 1-over with a birdie on three, which she followed with four consecutive pars. However, her round was undone with a bogey on eight and a triple-bogey on nine, leading to her 77.

Emee Herbert and Malene Krolboll Hansen, both of whom were making their Regional debuts, shot matching 6-over 78s and are tied for 67th. Herbert's day was defined by two holes - the par-5 11th and par-5 third, which she combined to shoot 5-over with a triple-bogey on 11 and double-bogey on three. She played the remaining 16 holes 1-over with two birdies and 11 pars.

Hansen's day started with a par and birdie, but she then played the next six holes at 7-over before making a par on 18 to make the turn at 6-over. She moved back to 4-over with birdies on holes one and two. Three pars followed before she closed out the round with a birdie and three bogeys.

Coastal tees off on the second round of play at 7:30 a.m. The Chanticleer will be paired with competitors from Northwestern and Mississippi State.
