CONWAY - Trailing by 17 points to Longwood (5-9, 2-3) early in the fourth quarter, Coastal (6-8, 1-4) began a comeback attempt that cut the deficit to four but ultimately fell short as the Lancers closed the game with four straight free throws to earn a 56-48 victory Monday night at The HTC Center.

The two sides were deadlocked in the second quarter as each team scored eight points to give Longwood a 29-21 advantage at the half.
Coastal's struggles from the field continued into the third as Longwood pulled away to an 18-lead point lead -- the largest of the night -- with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter. Adams hit her first 3-pointer of the night with six seconds left in the third to trim the gap to 15 points.
Brown put the Lancers up by 17 after getting the first basket of the four quarter before the Chants began their 15-2 run that took the game into the final minute of play. Needing to foul in order to stop the clock, Coastal sent Longwood's Headen and Brown to the line. The Lancer duo knocked down all four of their attempts.
Coastal has the week off before returning to action on Tuesday, Jan. 12, to start a two-game road swing at High Point. Opening tip between the Chants and Panthers is set for 7 p.m. at HPU's Millis Center.
