HANAHAN - Malene Krolboll Hansen rocketed 31 spots up the leaderboard in the final round Wednesday, but the Coastal Carolina women's golf team had to settle for an 18th place finish at the Cougar Classic, played at the par 72, 6.224-yard Yeamans Hall.

The Chanticleers started strong before carding a team score of 9-over par 297 for the day. Overall, Coastal posted a 54-hole score of 890 (302-291-297). North Carolina overtook Furman on Wednesday to win with an impressive 9-under par 279 for a three-day total of 838. Furman finished eight strokes back with a score of 846.

Hansen finished in a tie for 34th with a score of 219. She opened the tournament Monday with a 5-over 77 but rallied to shoot an even par 72 in round two. In the final round, the junior, who started on hole 15, reeled off three straight birdies to begin her day and was 4-under par after seven holes. However, she dropped a pair of shots on holes 4 and 5 to fall to 2-under. Hansen knocked in a birdie on the par-4 8th hole but suffered a bogey on the par-4 10th to post her 70.

Victoria Parker was also a big mover for the Chanticleers in the final round. The freshman posted her first career round under par with a 1-under 71 and jumped 26 spots into a tie for 50th (76-74-71=221). Parker had 16 pars, a bogey and birdies on holes 3 and 13 for her 71.

Marie Lunackova, CCU's leader for the first two rounds, carded a 77 in the final round and finished in a tie for 45th (72-71-77=220). Barbora Bakova finished in a tie for 93rd (77-74-79=230) while Yuki Nakayama tied for 104th (77-76-85=236).

The Chanticleers will return to action in two weeks (Oct. 17-18) at the ECU Regional Preview at Ironwood.
