JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. - Senior Lena Schaeffner carded a 3-under 69 on Tuesday to lead Coastal Carolina to a ninth-place team showing Briar's Creek Invitational, contested at the par 72, 6,185-yard The Golf Club at Briar's Creek.

The Chanticleers concluded the tournament with rounds of 295, 293 and 289 for a 13-over 877 to place ninth in the 18-team field that featured eight of Golfstat's top-50 ranked teams. No. 8 Florida won the event with a 6-uder 858 (293-280-285) as Indiana finished runner-up with a 5-over 869 (291-285-293). No. 47 Clemson (870) was third followed by No. 37 East Carolina (871) in fourth. No. 20 Florida State and No. 12 Kent State tied for fifth with 872 tallies, while No. 36 Louisville (874) was seventh. No. 26 Texas Tech (876) placed eighth, finishing a single shot ahead of the Chants. Coastal defeated half the field including Big South-foe Campbell and No. 30 Michigan State.

East Carolina's F. Gustafsson Spang, the 15th-ranked player in the nation according to Golfstat, claimed individual medalist honors with a 8-under 208 (73-67-68).

Schaeffner tied with Penn State's Lauren Waller for 11th on the individual leaderboard with a 1-under 54-hole score of 215 (73-73-69). She played her first six holes of the day a combined 4-under, counting two birdies and an eagle. She went on to par her next six holes before paying her final five holes 1-over with a birdies, two pars and two bogeys for her 3-under 69. The round was her second this season in the 60s and seventh of par or better. Bailey Cocca, a senior, shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, tying for 13th in the 93-competitor field. She posted rounds of 73-71-73 for her career-best 1-over 217 final score. Cocca turned in three birdies and four bogeys along with 11 pars on the day. She concluded the 54-hole event with 36 pars and 10 birdies.

Malene Krolboll Hansen tied for 49th overall, carding scores of 75, 76 and 73 for an 8-over 224. Hansen's final round included three birdies and 12 pars.

Marie Lunackova placed tied for 54th with a 9-over 225 (74-73-78), while Barbora Bakova tied for 78th with a 231 (81-76-74). Lunackova ended the tournament with 30 pars and eight birdies as Bakova totaled 31 and 6.

As a team the Chanticleer carded 167 pars during the tournament and ranked third in par-3 scoring, playing the difficult holes a combined 8-over.

The Chants return to action April 4-5 at the Web.com Intercollegiate, hosted by Jacksonville University at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Verde Beach, Fla.
