June 10, 2016 BATON ROUGE, La. - Coastal Carolina third baseman Zach Remillard (Cohoes, N.Y./La Salle Institute) was selected in the 10th round (296th overall pick) by the Chicago White Sox in the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft.
Remillard is the 14th Chanticleer to be drafted in the top 10 rounds since 2008. He will join recent Chants Casey Schroeder (eighth round pick in 2015) and Jacob May (third round pick in 2013). With teammate Michael Paez being drafted in the fourth round by the New York Mets earlier in the day, Coastal has now had at least two players drafted within the first two rounds in the same season six times in school history.
Remillard was a first team All-Big South selection, a member of the 2016 Big South All-Tournament Team and the Most Outstanding Player at the 2016 NCAA Raleigh Regional. He is having one of the most productive seasons in the nation this season. The senior leads the Big South in three categories while second in three others. He ranks 10th in the NCAA in total bases, 11th nationally in RBI and 12th nationally in home runs. He additionally ranks 29th in the NCAA in hits, 32nd in runs scored and 37th in slugging percentage. Overall, he batted .348 ââ'¬" 76 points higher than last season ââ'¬" and with 60 runs scored.
Remillard will be leaving Coastal Carolina with his name plastered throughout the Chanticleer record book. He currently ranks third in games played (233), third in games started (229), fourth in at bats (838), 20th in runs scored (143), 12th in hits (239), 10th in the doubles (46), eighth in home runs (30), sixth in RBI (163) and eighth in total bases (382).
Remillard's brother, Will, is also playing minor league baseball. Will played at Coastal for the 2013 season, was selected in the 19th round of the 2013 draft by the Chicago Cubs.
